Delhi Airport is committed to fostering biodiversity through sustainable landscaping and ecosystem preservation. By integrating nature into our operations, we aim to create a thriving environment that supports local flora, fauna, and the health of the surrounding ecosystem.

Delhi Airport has taken several steps to promote biodiversity conservation and create a sustainable environment within its premises. As part of its commitment to environmental stewardship, the airport focuses on green spaces, eco-friendly landscaping, and wildlife protection efforts.

Center of Excellence – Biodiversity Center

The centre represents a holistic approach toward sustainable airport biodiversity management, aligning aviation activities with ecological preservation and community engagement for a more environmentally conscious future. The centre serves as a green space within the airport premises, contributing to biodiversity conservation and habitat creation. Center spreads across >400,000 sq. feet and houses 6,50,000 winter seedlings, two lakhs flowering and foliage plants including >60,000 potted flower plants spread across the premises and >1.26 lakhs indoor plants.

Green Spaces and Landscaping

Delhi Airport has developed extensive green spaces within its terminals and surrounding areas to support local flora and fauna. Delhi Airport has >4.55 lakhs m2 green landscaping. This promotes a healthier environment, fostering resilience against habitat loss and supporting the survival of various species. The airport has implemented sustainable landscaping practices, such as planting native species, which help conserve water and promote local biodiversity. The use of low-maintenance, drought-resistant plants reduce the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides, supporting a healthier ecosystem.

Wildlife Management

Delhi Airport takes proactive measures to manage and protect wildlife on its premises. The wildlife management plan includes monitoring and mitigating potential risks posed by animals, such as birds or stray animals, to airport operations. At the same time, efforts are made to ensure that these animals are protected, where possible.
